Want to transform your little slugger’s next birthday party into a Grand Slam celebration? Hit a home run with these simple to make birthday cupcakes:
- Frost cupcakes with a smooth layer of white butter cream icing. Let cupcakes set for 30 minutes or until they form a light crust before starting the next step.
- Place a paper towel on top of the cupcake and smooth gently with your fingertips, taking care not to leave impressions or fingerprints.
- Use squeezable or piped-on red icing to add backward C’s for the baseball’s seams.
- Finish by adding “V” stitches to the seams, drawing one side right-side up and the other upside down.
Make baseball cupcakes using your favorite cake recipe, or use the simple recipe below to make creamy vanilla cupcakes:
Creamy Vanilla Baseball Cupcakes
1 cup sugar
½ cup butter, softened
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ¾ tsp baking powder
½ cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream together butter and sugar, and then add eggs one at a time. Add dry ingredients and mix well, then stir in milk and vanilla. Spoon batter into lined cupcake tins, filling three quarters full, and bake 20-25 minutes.
For added fun, place baseball cupcakes on top of glove cookies. To make glove cookies, roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough 1/8” thick and use a hand=shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Bake until golden brown and frost with chocolate icing.
Who says baseball cupcakes have to be just for birthdays? Make a batch for the next big home game, or as a special classroom treat.
